To Engage in Research
Every year The Australian profiles a very small number of select projects in its research supplement. This year, She Flies was one of the lucky eight. You can read the article here.
But what does She Flies have to do with research? We’re glad you asked!
Our She Flies program is underpinned by research at three levels:
We are working with a team of Social Science researchers to understand gender diversity and how it relates to career choices in STEM fields. Our research is also studying the impact of the She Flies Drone Camps on participants. This helps to drive why we do what we do.
Our She Flies programs have been designed in line with the latest research in pedagogy. We are also conducting our own research into our teaching methods, and how She Flies can be used as a curriculum intervention. This ensures we are best informed about how we do what we do.
The activities run through our She Flies programs are designed by our Chief Education Officer, Dr Karen Joyce. They are born out of her 20 years research experience in environmental earth observations. Her ongoing research in this field maintains the currency of what we do.
So yes, She Flies certainly provides education and engagement opportunities in STEM, but our breadth and depth is far greater. Thank you to Penny Durham from The Australian for seeing this and including us in her research coverageJ
