Understanding the science behind our programs
One of the factors that we believe sets She Flies aside from any other school based drone program is our grounding in science. We are constantly evaluating our teaching to ensure this is of the highest standard.
We also take a very critical approach to understanding the social impact we are having as a result of the program.
Evaluating our Camps
Our She Flies camp participants have all been completing surveys before and after their camp as part of a James Cook University research project. This project aims to assess the impact of the She Flies camps on participants’ aspirations for STEM studies and careers, particularly the drone economy.
The team of six social scientists plus three undergraduate students are busily interpreting survey results and also searching for common themes within the videos created by the girls. The results of this very important research will not only inform our own programs, but hopefully allow us to make recommendations more broadly for other curriculum interventions concerning STEM education.
All research will be made publicly available upon completion. Individual survey responses are anonymous and have been obtained following ethics approval.
